As the mobile landscape continues to evolve at breakneck speed, swift app development has become a driving force behind software innovation. At Microsoft, we're committed to empowering developers to build apps on any device, with powerful tools, an open platform, and a global cloud. To achieve this vision, we've signed an agreement to acquire Xamarin, a leading platform provider for mobile app development.

Xamarin's unique solution enables developers to take advantage of the productivity and power of .NET to build mobile apps using C#. With Xamarin, developers can deliver fully native mobile app experiences on iOS, Android, and Windows devices, while sharing common app code across platforms. This approach has fueled impressive growth over the past four years.

Xamarin boasts an impressive track record, with more than 15,000 customers in 120 countries, including over 100 Fortune 500 companies. Top enterprises like Alaska Airlines, Coca-Cola Bottling, Thermo Fisher, Honeywell, and JetBlue use Xamarin to build their mobile apps. Even gaming giants SuperGiant Games and Gummy Drop rely on Xamarin for their mobile app development needs.

Through Xamarin Test Cloud, developers can test and improve the quality of their apps using thousands of cloud-hosted phones and devices. With this solution, developers from all walks – C#, Objective-C, Java, and hybrid app builders – can ensure their apps perform flawlessly across multiple platforms.

Our partnership with Xamarin has been going strong for a while now, and we've jointly built integration into Visual Studio, Microsoft Azure, Office 365, and the Enterprise Mobility Suite. This end-to-end workflow provides developers with everything they need to build native, secure apps across platforms.

With today's acquisition announcement, we're taking our collaboration to the next level by deepening integration and delivering seamless mobile app development experiences. The combination of Xamarin, Visual Studio, Visual Studio Team Services, and Azure offers a complete mobile app development solution that covers everything from development to delivery and instrumentation.

We can't wait to see what developers build with this powerful toolset! For more information on our plans, be sure to check out my Build keynote and get ready for Xamarin Evolve in late April.
